Dec 15 :: Wed. 7-9pm SRD Annual General Meeting + Sustainable Design Conference updates, Free entry :: at the Agincourt Hotel Dugout Bar.
An eventful 21st year, learn of our good progress through 2010, just listen and network or dive in and participate. 3×5 min talks from three recent travellers to exotic design conferences in Chicago, Bangalore and Shanghai will give a brief green design focused talk to the audience on their journey and conference highlights. SRD committee members, Mariano Ramirez (Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW) and Tara Andrews (Urban Research Centre, UWS) recently presented papers at the Sustainability in Design: Now! Conference in Bangalore, India. The focus was on knowledge exchange between East and West in Sustainable Design and Design for Social Innovation. Mariano and Tara had the opportunity to catch up with Ezio Manzini and other international members of the Design for Social Innovation (DESIS) and O2 networks to further discussions on how design faculties in Australia can contribute to these projects. Tara presented her preliminary PhD findings in a paper titled ‘Mobilising the University as a frontier for design-led social innovation ‘ [available here: ] while Mariano presented on a range of sustainable design topics, including ‘Traces of culture in students’ concepts for product-service systems: experiences from three continents’; ‘Sustainability consideration in the Australian International Design Awards’ (co-authored with SRD Committee member Stephen Clune); and ‘Application of ecodesign strategies amongst Australian industrial design consultancies’ [available here: ]
